Oil and Gas Sector

We are experienced with oil and gas-related federal and provincial Acts, regulations, and their requirements for upstream and midstream projects. We help our clients navigate through environmental permitting and regulatory processes, which includes those managed by federal agencies such as Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and the National Energy Board, as well as provincially the Alberta Energy Regulator, BC Oil and Gas Commission, BC Ministry of Environment and Saskatchewan’s Ministry of the Economy and Ministry of Environment, among others.

Some of our oil and gas sector services include:

  • Fish and fish habitat assessments and watercourse crossing assessments (i.e., roads and pipelines), including Qualified Aquatic Environment Specialist (QAES) assessments (Alberta) 
  • Wetland assessments to meet all requirements of the Alberta Wetland Policy, including avoidance and minimization planning, Wetland Assessment Impact Forms (WAIF), Wetland Assessment Impact Reports (WAIR) and coordinating replacement agreements with agencies such as Ducks Unlimited Canada
  • Wildlife habitat assessments, including wildlife sweeps, pre-disturbance migratory bird nest surveys and sensitive species / species at risk surveys
  • Vegetation assessments, including rare plant surveys and invasive weeds
  • Soils assessments, including Alberta Conservation and Reclamation Plans (C&R plans), Pre-site assessment and BC Schedule A and B processes
  • Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) turbidity monitoring
  • Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (ESCP) and Environmental Management Plans (EMP) for construction
