This year, 2024, marks 30 successful years in business for EDI Environmental Dynamics Inc. (EDI). While we have grown steadily over this time, our team has not forgotten our roots. In 1994, biologist Dwight Hickey moved to Prince George to start EDI and, in doing so, founded one of the first environmental consulting firms in northern British Columbia. Dwight forged five core business principles that still guide EDI today:
- Set the standard by which environmental issues are addressed, wherever we work.
- Build a team of committed staff that pride themselves on the application of consistent, professional, and unbiased expertise to address environmental issues.
- Focus on producing consistently high-quality services in our field of expertise through continual quality improvement.
- Create a strategic advantage based on geographic location.
- Maintain working relationships and associations with other reputable firms, educational institutions, and First Nations to enhance the core services EDI provides to our clients.
Expansion at EDI has been strategic over the 30 years, evolving organically with the establishment of new offices when the time was right: Whitehorse in 2000, Grande Prairie in 2002, Vancouver in 2006, Nanaimo in 2011, Calgary in 2014, Saskatoon in 2015, Victoria in 2016, and Smithers in 2021. We add new members to our team when our project base and the range of clients we work with expand. EDI started with a core team of terrestrial and aquatic biologists, and now has teams that work on wetlands, water resources, environmental assessment, management and monitoring, habitat restoration, and training. We also have support teams for GIS, IT, administration and writing.
We are proud of our history and the fact that, after 30 years, we are still 100% employee-owned, with many new partners joining over the last few years. This is a path Dwight would have approved of.
We look forward to the exciting road ahead and the next 30 years of business. We continue to work toward our core purpose of making a difference by helping people and the environment.
