EDI Charity Fishing Derby – Family, Friends, Fun and Fundraising

What comes to mind for EDI’s Christa Porter and Susan Norman when asked to describe the EDI Charity Fishing Derby? – Laughter and smiles. Blue skies. Boats lined up along the beach. Kids playing everywhere.

Christa and Susan are part of the EDI Environmental Dynamics Inc. team that organizes the annual derby and the logistics behind the event’s primary goals – family, fun and, most importantly, fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society. The event, taking place at Purden Lake Provincial Park near Prince George on Saturday, May 25, marks the derby’s fourth year and EDI’s tenth year of fundraising for various Canadian Cancer Society initiatives.

Proceeds from this year’s derby will support the Canadian Cancer Society’s Kordyban Lodge in Prince George. The Kordyban Lodge offers an affordable place to stay for individuals (and their families) receiving cancer or other medical treatment. Fundraising to support people with cancer is a cause our EDI team is passionate about because of the many personal experiences supporting those facing cancer, including EDI’s founder Dwight Hickey. Contributing to the Canadian Cancer Society is a perfect fit for EDI because the Society supports residents in communities across northern BC, where EDI team members have worked over the last 25 years.

The EDI Charity Fishing Derby focuses on promoting family fun and participation by all, regardless of experience. While children and adults compete in their own categories, the value of prizes stays the same for both. Additional prizes are awarded for hidden lengths and the most fish per boat. Participants who don’t land a fish will still get a chance to enter into a draw to win a prize. With 13 derby prizes, ~40 door prizes, raffles, and a 50:50 draw, almost everyone is a winner. As in past years, the success of this event is measured, not only by the funds raised, but also by the number of people that return each year to join in the fun. CLICK HERE to register or CONTACT US to learn more.
