Biosecurity Protocols for Aquaculture Facilities

This five-phase project includes conducting a review and risk assessment of 99 invasive fish species and 45 disease agents that could pose a threat to wild aquatic systems and aquaculture in Alberta; reviewing how 10 jurisdictions around Alberta manage and prevent whirling disease and other agents; developing facility-specific biosecurity protocols and procedure documents for all of the Government of Alberta fish culture facilities; applying for recognition as disease-free compartments for these facilities; and developing Provincial Best Management Practices that will apply to all Government of Alberta facilities.
