Team Stories - EDI in Whitehorse

The EDI Whitehorse office was established in 2000: “In the beginning, we had two people on staff, and we invested much of our time getting to know the Yukon way of doing things and learning about Yukon communities,” explains Pat Tobler, EDI Territories Regional Director. “Some of our first jobs were working with Yukon First Nations on projects that were of interest to them. This experience was so valuable, and we are happy to report that this type of work is still a big part of what we do today.”

Currently, the Whitehorse office has a team of 20 people. Whitehorse team members work throughout the North on a wide range of projects for industry, government and First Nations. With a focus on living things and where they live, some key services include:

  • Aquatic assessments involving fish, fish habitat, instream flow needs, water quality and hydrology;
  • Terrestrial assessments involving vegetation, wildlife and wildlife habitat; and,
  • Environmental assessment, management, planning, permitting and monitoring.

Yukon is home to people that are active and involved in the local community, and EDI team members are no exception. You will find many of our staff in the community and beyond recreating or volunteering their time. EDI supports many local community events, organizations and facilities. For example, EDI is a key event sponsor at the Mount McIntyre ski facility in Whitehorse and hosts the ‘Hut to Hut Ski Event’ that takes place there each winter.
