From 2021 to 2024, the Dempster Fibre Line Project installed 778 km of fibre optic line from Dawson City, Yukon, to Inuvik, NWT, bringing critical redundancy for internet access to Northern communities. Spanning the rugged Dempster Highway, the project required careful management of highly sensitive environmental factors, including permafrost, wetlands, wildlife, and fish habitats.
Contracted by ROHL Global, EDI served as the project’s Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP). EDI collaborated daily with ROHL Global’s management team and on-site Environmental Monitors, providing continuous guidance to navigate Northern environmental challenges in real-time.
EDI’s Key Contributions:
- Riparian Management: Developed mapping and management strategies for over 2,000 water features.
- QEP Oversight (2022–2024): Provided high-level environmental guidance, incident response, and regulatory reporting support.
- Field Support (2022): Delivered targeted on-the-ground environmental monitoring.
