Our Team in the Kootenays

Expanding Environmental Services into Southeastern BC

The Kootenay Region in southeast British Columbia is a wonderful place to work and live. Team members at EDI are using their skills to support projects local to the Kootenays, having worked on projects from the Elk Valley in the east to the Columbia River Valley in the west. Jerry Grant, an EDI Fish Biologist in Castlegar, is excited to see the increased presence of EDI in the Kootenays and is looking forward to more work in the region.

EDI’s team in the Kootenays has grown to seven members in recent years, each living and working in communities across the region, including Kimberley, Fairmont Hot Springs, Golden, Nelson, Castlegar and Rossland. Known for its rugged terrain, beautiful meadows and snow-capped peaks, the Kootenays draw in many with nature-related pursuits such as hiking, mountain biking, and skiing, to name a few. Senior Biologist and Project Manager Chris Albrecht, located in Nelson, is quick to note the fantastic arts and culture opportunities that bring depth and variety to the area.

EDI focuses on protecting the environment, while helping clients achieve their project goals. Target sectors for the Kootenays include mining, renewable energy, utilities, transportation, as well as urban and rural development. Collaboration with and support to Indigenous Nations is a key focus, states EDI Wildlife Biologist Denis Dean, based in Kimberley.

Our team members in the Kootenay Region collectively have a wealth of experience in environmental consulting. The team provides skills and expertise in wildlife biology, terrestrial ecology, fisheries biology, water quality, hydrology, and meteorology. Specialized services provided by our Kootenay team include water quality monitoring, wildlife surveys, habitat assessments, fish and amphibian salvages, hydrometeorological data collection, construction monitoring, fish entrainment evaluation, and habitat restoration. The team regularly assists clients with their varying needs, including environmental assessments, environmental management plans, and monitoring.
