Our Team in Smithers

Providing Exceptional Environmental Services in Northwestern BC

Nestled in the Bulkley Valley of northwest BC, Smithers is a town of about 5,000 people that provides services to a similar number of people in the region beyond the town boundaries. EDI made a strategic move, opening an office there in 2021. The number of EDI team members working out of the Smithers office has grown steadily since then.

Office Lead, Anne MacLeod, explains “Smithers is a great location for an environmental consulting business. Quite a few biologists live in Smithers, so we have local knowledge and experience that can be called on to support a growing business. And, given our location, we can bring in EDI team members from both Prince George and Whitehorse to help with projects, if need be.”

EDI team members from Smithers work in a diversity of sectors including mining, transportation (including rail and highways), agriculture, tourism and forestry. They also work together with various groups, including Indigenous communities and government agencies.

The EDI Smithers office is in the traditional territory of the Wet’suwet’en people, who have been living in the area surrounding Smithers for thousands of years. Based on EDI’s guiding principles, our work is focused on respectful knowledge sharing and building mutually beneficial, long-term relationships with Indigenous peoples, communities and businesses.
