25 Years and Counting: EDI in the Yukon

We are thrilled to be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the EDI office in Whitehorse, YT. What started as a bold idea has grown into a close-knit team of nearly 30 dedicated professionals. After 25 years of work in the region, we are proud to offer comprehensive expertise in aquatic and terrestrial biology in the Yukon.

EDI’s Yukon journey began in 2000, when Territories Regional Director, Pat Tobler, and former owner, Dwight Hickey, saw potential in the Yukon, even during an economic downturn. Pat made Whitehorse his home, taking the time to build genuine and lasting relationships with local communities and First Nations, a cornerstone of our success that continues today. While our range of projects and clients has grown, our commitment to working collaboratively with local communities and First Nations remains at the heart of what we do.

Yukoners are also getting used to seeing EDI supporting Yukon events and organizations. We are a team that genuinely cares, not just about the quality of our work, but about the communities we live and work in. This passion extends beyond office hours. As one example, three of our team members in Whitehorse dedicate their time to the board of Fish4Kenya, a sustainable charity, started by a Yukon biologist, that helps teach Kenyans how to build small businesses by raising fish.

Our success is rooted in a shared sense of purpose. Over half of our Whitehorse team are shareholders in EDI, with six being voting partners. This ownership means we are not just employees—we are personally invested in the success of our clients and our company.

We are honored to claim a successful 25-year history in the Yukon and excited for the future. Let’s connect!
