About this opportunity:

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Intermediate Wildlife Biologist in our Calgary office. Remote locations in southern Alberta will also be considered. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting the team in the implementation of wildlife components of projects, including desktop and field-based wildlife and wildlife habitat programs. Our ideal candidate has extensive experience conducting wildlife surveys in Alberta with strengths in species-specific surveys, technical writing skills and environmental assessments and an understanding of the regulatory environment. Experience in the renewable energy sector is an asset.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Conducting wildlife field surveys, including general wildlife and wildlife habitat surveys, as well as species-specific surveys
• Managing and analyzing data collected for a variety of wildlife programs, including quality assurance and quality control
• Writing/ compiling technical reports and other project deliverables, including baseline inventories, environmental assessments, environmental protection plans, wildlife management plans, and regulatory submissions
• Contributing to proposals and budget development for wildlife components
• Working effectively in a team environment to meet project goals
• Representing corporate values and EDI’s commitment to high quality services
• Participate proactively in EDI’s health and safety program

We are looking for someone with:

• Broad knowledge of terrestrial wildlife and related disciplines (e.g., vegetation, terrestrial ecosystems)
• In-depth expertise with one or more species at risk and/or species of regulatory concern (e.g., caribou, bats) in Alberta
• Experience in wildlife inventory and habitat survey methods in Alberta
• Experience in data analysis and habitat modelling
• Proven record of professional report writing
• Working knowledge of provincial (Alberta) and federal regulatory requirements and processes
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and time management skills
• Capacity to conduct field work in remote locations and/or travel between offices

Job requirements includes:

• A minimum of 5 years of related experience
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology or related discipline(s)
• Registration or eligibility for registration as Professional Biologist (PBiol)
• Demonstrated experience leading field-based wildlife surveys in Alberta
• Demonstrated experience with technical report writing and data analysis
• Class 5 driver’s licence
