January 3, 2017

Millstone Trail upgrades in Nanaimo, BC officially opened to the public.

As part of  the $3.7 million Millstone Trunk Sewer Replacement project in Nanaimo, BC, a new multi-use trail was constructed above system upgrades. The trails, an add-on to the Millstone Trail system, link Buttertubs Marsh to Bowen Park and connect to the city’s downtown trails.

EDI's Senior Biologist, Adam Compton, worked alongside local contractors since 2013 adding environmental expertise to the sewer upgrade project and included environmental assessment, permitting, monitoring and restoration. Over 1000 fish were salvaged (see side photo) from affected project areas and restoration was tailored to enhance fish habitat while adding to the overall experience of trail users. Adam was on-hand for the official opening of the trails on Thurdsay, December 15, 2016.
