EDI held its 2nd Annual Fishing Derby at Purden Lake on May 27th, enticing 98 registrants who angled their way to many great prizes. As part of the day's events, over 30 door prizes were given away and items donated by generous community sponsors were auctioned off. The event raised almost $5,000 while EDI and its staff topped off the overall amount to over $7,000. One of our participants, George Marcus, had this to say about the event: "What [EDI is] doing is fantastic and I have to applaud the event. It is well managed with very friendly people and adds a bit more annually to keep people coming back".
“The goal is to have fun and to get as much as we can in donations,” says EDI's president Bob Redden, who also mentions that fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society was inspired by EDI's founder Dwight Hickey, who lost his own battle to cancer in 2001. “For me personally, that’s what inspired me to take part in the Relay for Life cancer fundraisers,” says Redden.
All of the proceeds will support the Canadian Cancer Society's Kordyban Lodge in Prince George. Through events like this, EDI has been able to raise over $75,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society in 8 years of fundraising initiatives - none of this is achievable without the continuing support of our corporate sponsors and contributors, as well as those who attend these very worthwhile events. Coordinating and attending these events is a passion for us and we are just starting to hit our stride with hopes to bring our total fundraising to $100,000 in the next couple years.
